Make Sure Your Baby Room Safety

Filed Under Children's Room, Children's Room Pictures | Posted on March 7, 2008

Every parent should know how to create a safe room for baby and keep baby safe. Then How To Make Sure Your Baby Room Safety?

You have to rely on your common sense and instincts to ensure that the house may in no way prove dangerous for the child. You may have to throw out certain items temporarily and buy new ones from a furniture store for safety purposes. The best way to do that is to see the world from the point of view of a baby. You have to get down on all fours and check through the house. What could be harmful for your tiny tot? Is that plug point dangerously low? Can the sharp corners of the platform bed hit him? Are your flower vases within reach of an active child?

Since kids can break your fragile vases and glasses, it is better to store them in a safe place until the child grows up. Also, make sure that you buy child proof locks for the closets. Very active babies can break open the sturdiest cupboards at times! So, avoid keeping dangerous items in the lower cabinets. Any sharp object or solutions that may be poisonous must be kept on very high shelves. If you must keep something in the lower cabinets, make it safe and light.

Always keep any hot objects out of reach of the children. Make sure your burners and hot water heaters are beyond the reach of children and also turned down to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Any area which could cause possible burns must be well protected. A curious baby could burn himself in no time. Make sure your dining table does not have table covers that can be tugged at by a child. This might lead to the hot food kept on it to fall on the baby. Also, cover all electric sockets. You can buy the child proof cover plates that are easily available in any children’s shop.

Keep your sofas and other furniture items in the living room well padded. The sharp edges of many of the modern designs may hurt a crawling baby. Make sure you have basic latches in every door as a child on all fours can quickly move out of sight and get himself into trouble. Children are also notorious for putting anything in there mouth. So, keep any small parts that could be a choking hazard for the kid out of reach. Ensure that the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order. If you have older kids, keep their toys in a separate area as most of them could pose choking hazards to a baby. (By Sarika Kabra)

Other ideas:

Collect all bathing materials before bringing your baby into the bathroom for his bath. Place the bath seat in the tub so your baby cannot reach the faucet or spout. If your bath seat moves or tips while your child is in it, discontinue use.
Mobiles should be removed when your baby can pull herself up. Never place infants to sleep on pillows, sofa cushions, adult beds, waterbeds, beanbags or any other surface not specifically designed for infant sleep.
Always secure your baby by using the stroller seat belt. Don’t hang pocketbooks or shopping bags over the handles of your stroller which can cause the stroller to tip over.
In a soft carrier, your baby should fit snugly in the carrier with the head supported and weight evenly distributed. A carrier should only be used when you are walking with the baby, not as a transport in a car or bicycle
Never use a car seat in a seating location with an airbag.
Safe high chairs have a waist strap and a crotch strap. Keep your baby’s high chair far enough from the table, counter or wall so your baby can’t push off from it.
