Creating A Home Office – Home Office Ideas

Many people place their office cabinet into a corner of the room in the catty-corner fashion so as to ensure that it fits in seamlessly with the decor, offers full accessibility to all doors and other openings, and also hides any wires and plugs that are being used.
This is another reason why the cabinet option is so popular with parents: all wires and things that so quickly and easily entangle children are locked away or barred by the backing of the cabinet and thus the kids are kept safe while the parents are doing their work.
If you believe that you need to have a spare bedroom in order to run your small home based business in style, think again! Sure, there are those who will convert a portion of their kitchen or even a walk in closet into a bona fide office, but for the truly spatially challenged, there is another office: a cabinet! No, not the cheap furniture you can now buy at most general merchandise stores; instead, find that one piece of really well made furniture that was crafted in the old days when home furnishings were made of solid wood rather than particle board, laminate, and a lot of hope and glue.
You can find such solid pieces quite frequently at the goodwill store where they sell for very little money. Granted, they will look beaten up, probably have a lot of scrapes and scratches, and most likely feature a home paint job or two, but that is exactly what you are looking for! Have a buddy with a truck come and help you, because this kind of solid furniture is very heavy, indeed.
Once you get it home, measure it and figure out what you want to do. For example, the old record player cabinets would feature deep drawers that are perfect for holding hanging files. After installing a few simple rods inside these drawers, your hanging file folders will have a home! Old television cabinets frequently did double duty as receptacles for records and also a radio and you may find that the side portions of the cabinet are perfect for filing! Some will even have slots where you can separate invoices, bills, and other papers!
Of course, if you are lucky enough to score a desk cabinet you hit the jackpot! These pleasing pieces of furniture will feature a drop down drawer front which will reveal a deep cavern that may hold a writing surface, several drawers for office supplies, slots for envelopes, cards and so on, and a host of other nooks and crannies perfect for storing your must have items. Below there is enough room for a printer, paper, CPU and other peripherals, while the top may hold the computer monitor, telephone, and a few pleasing odds and ends. This kind of cabinet is worth its weight in gold and so often it may be purchased for next to nothing!
Refinish the furniture by stripping off offensive color and paint and lightly sanding it. Fix whatever needs to be glued back into place and reinforce areas that may appear weak. Stain or paint it to match your décor and add some pleasing cabinet knobs. Add a finishing clear coat, and you are done turning a cabinet into a home office!
